About me

Freelance, Certified Chinese to English Translator

I provide translations from Chinese into English

I work as a freelance translator from my home office at 6 Harlequin Court, Craven Avenue, Ealing, London, W5 2TU. I can take care of small jobs like translations of Birth Certificates and Academic Qualifications as well as much larger and more complex projects like translations of rental contracts, or informed consent forms for clinical trials and documents used in major engineering projects. I work from 9-5 UK time, feel free to contact me for a chat or a free quote.

Since 2001 I have translated an average of 200 documents per year. I promise that I will take care of my clients and give them whatever the need to achieve their goals.

Quick Bio 博客

As a freelance translator, I speak Chinese fluently. I sometimes write about interesting Chinese topics on my Blog.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Scientific, Technical and Medical Translation from Imperial College which I completed in 2007. I am a fully qualified member of the Institute of Linguists, and the Chartered Institute of Translators and Interpreters. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics with Astronomy, and a General Scholar’s Certificate in Civil Engineering.

I was born and grew up in London. Before becoming a freelance translator, I lived in Beijing, China for almost 10 years. I also lived in Taipei for 2 years, so I know both traditional and simplified Chinese characters. I have now settled down in West London where I have been serving clients for the last 10 years.

Speaking and Training

I enjoy giving talks at various high-profile events, both for the business community and for the translation community.

I also work from time to time as a lecturer in Translation for Essex University; my lectures have always received good feedback.

Way back in 2014, I ran an online training course called “increasing revenue and professional development by specializing in technical documents” which was tremendously successful and is still purchased today. (Increasing revenue and professional development by specializing in technical documents)

On some years I have helped prepare the examination materials for the DipTrans qualification offered by the Institute of Linguists.

I have given 1-to-1 coaching to new translators preparing to take the DipTrans exam.

I have served as an expert witness in an arbitration case.

I have helped companies train their staff to be able to handle in-house translations.

Translation Agencies

I am also happy to accept inquiries from translation agencies that require a high-quality sub-contractor for their project. Please note that I generally work 9-5 UK time, and I don’t work weekends or evenings, so if it’s an urgent job on Friday needed for Monday, I can’t help.

I regularly work with some of the UK’s leading agencies. Feel free to contact me for a free quote.

Certifications

I can provide fully certified translations as stipulated by the Home Office. Certifications can be confusing, so take a look at my page to ensure you know what you need.

I look forward to hearing from you and wish you the best!
